It’s no secret that winter driving can be scary. The season can wreak havoc on our vehicles, leaving them unreliable. That’s why we encourage everyone to schedule Jeep® service at Blaise Alexander Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Fiat of State College and to follow these helpful tips.

Get Your Vehicle Inspected

As we mentioned, winter can do some serious damage to your vehicle. We encourage you to have your vehicle inspected to make sure everything is ready for the season. These parts, in particular, are components that need to be inspected:

  • Engine oil and filter
  • Battery
  • Heating system
  • Brakes
  • Tires

Replace Your Tires

If your tires are getting too old, and certainly if they’re getting bare, it’s crucial to have them replaced before the winter season hits. We recommend that you have at least 6/32 of an inch of tread for adequate traction on snowy or icy streets.

Check Your Lights

Your lights are always crucial, but especially in winter when visibility is limited. Make sure that your lightbulbs are all working properly, and we also recommend cleaning the outside lenses. For optimal visibility, you should also replace your windshield wiper blades and top off your windshield wiper fluid.

Pack an Emergency Kit

Unfortunately, even with the best precautions, accidents tend to happen in the winter. We recommend that you pack an emergency kit in your car so that you’ll always be prepared:

  • Ice scraper
  • Small shovel
  • Kitty litter or sand
  • Blanket
  • Flashlight
  • Bottled water and nonperishable snacks
